Specialty field: Full service masonry firm specializing in restoration and repair of all types of brick and stone structures.

Warren Davies' extensive experience in traditional masonry construction gives his company a unique ability to make repairs that respect the history of the structure whether it’s a modern brick building that’s been damaged, or a solid masonry home from the 17th Century. The business is located in Richmond, Virginia, where there is a rich masonry tradition with buildings that have been built hundreds of years apart. It is part of Davies’ mission as a mason to be a firm that maintains a constant commitment to quality on every type of project it does, and to be sensitive to the responsibility it has to provide great looking brickwork. The owner of the company is Warren Davies, a Master Mason with over twenty-five years in the business.

What kinds of projects has your company worked on in the past?

We have completed a full range of projects, large and small. We apply extensive oversight and a comprehensive knowledge of masonry construction that reaches back over several centuries. We have recently been working on restoring various masonry structures at the settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. Our ability to work on projects like these gives us a base of knowledge that allows us to apply practical solutions to repair and renovation projects on homes and other structures.

What kinds of repairs does your company specialize in?

We do all different kinds. Some typical repairs include: repointing common brick; repointing pressed brick; rebuilding and or repairing settled arches; repairing, repointing, and rebuilding parapet walls; chimney repair; fireplace restoration; porch, step, and stoop restoration and repair; door and window penetrations; spalled and or cracked brick replacement; and patio and sidewalk repairs.

Your company has done many historic projects. Tell us what that involves.

Many of our projects require great attention to historical accuracy with an emphasis on leaving an aesthetically pleasing product. Working on such projects has given us a great sensibility for repair work of all types. The skills our masons develop from doing meticulous restoration work have served us well in doing repairs to modern masonry. Although it’s not always possible, our goal is to make our repairs blend in with the surrounding masonry to avoid drawing attention to the repair. We spend a great deal of time searching for brick and mortar to match and blend in with the original work.

What are some of the major historic houses your company has done?

We've done work at the President’s House at the College of William and Mary- 1732; Marl Hill Farm- 1692; Weyanoke Plantation- 1790; Sherwood Forest Plantation- 1730; the John Marshall House- 1788, and Blandford Church- 1735. We’ve also done a number of nineteenth century buildings, such as the Stonewall Jackson School Building, Poplar Grove Plantation, the Leigh Street Armory, the Main Street Clock tower and a number others.
